The 2005 Columbus Crew season was the club's 10th season of existence and their 10th consecutive season in Major League Soccer, the top flight of soccer in the United States. The first match of the season was on April 2 against Los Angeles Galaxy. It was the fifth season under head coach Greg Andrulis who was replaced by interim head coach Robert Warzycha on July 16.

Preseason

The Crew started preseason at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. They brought in some non-rostered players to camp. These players included Mark Schulte, who would later sign with the team, Lee Morrison from Portland Timbers, Mira Mupier who previously played for Charlotte 49ers, Ricky Charles who previously played for USC Spartanburg Rifles, Chris Robinson from Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Ryan Mack from Syracuse Salty Dogs who was previously rostered by Columbus in 2003. The Crew then went to Spain to participate in the La Manga Cup where they played teams from Norway. After this they traveled to Virginia Beach, VA and Charleston, SC for the Carolina Challenge Cup. For these games they brought in Taylor Graham and Denny Clanton on trial.
